Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

The short version: Foxlore is built around privacy. All note storage, search, and AI features run entirely on your device. Your note content, tags, and search queries never leave your Mac under any circumstances. The only optional network activity is iCloud sync, anonymous analytics, and crash reporting — all of which are either handled by Apple or off by default.

On-device processing

All core features — note storage, semantic search, and AI summarisation — run locally using Apple's MLX framework and bundled embedding models. These models ship with the app via the App Store and make no network requests. No note content, tags, or search queries are ever transmitted as part of normal app operation.

Internet connections

Foxlore makes outbound network connections in three cases only:

1. iCloud Sync

Notes can be synced across your devices via Apple's CloudKit. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours. The Developer does not have access to any data stored in your iCloud account.

2. Analytics (opt-in, off by default)

If you choose to enable analytics in Settings → Privacy, anonymous usage signals are sent to TelemetryDeck. These signals describe which features are used and how often, and may include a coarse note count bucket (e.g. "11–50"). Analytics signals never include note content, tags, or search queries.

3. Crash Reports (opt-in, off by default)

If you choose to enable crash reporting in Settings → Privacy, crash reports are sent to Sentry when the app crashes. Reports include a stack trace and app state at the time of the crash. Crash reports never include note content. Disabling crash reporting stops Sentry immediately within the same session.

Your controls

Both analytics and crash reporting are disabled by default. You can enable or disable either toggle at any time in Settings → Privacy. No network data is sent unless you explicitly opt in.

Data the Developer never receives

Under any circumstance, the Developer does not receive and has no access to your note content, tags, or search queries.

Third-party services

When enabled, Foxlore uses TelemetryDeck for analytics and Sentry for crash reporting. iCloud sync is provided by Apple via CloudKit. Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above and note the changes clearly in the release notes.
